Character Name: Ivan
Canon Golden Sun

Personality: Ivan has a few main personality traits which are worth mentioning. The first is that before he met Isaac and Garet, he had no friends whatsoever. This, combined with his ‘strange power’ of reading minds, made him more than a bit awkward, socially. The first impression that most people have of him was ‘that weird kid with the purple eyes’, as he was quiet, extremely polite, and also extremely creepy in being able to repeat thoughts out loud all the time. He learned to stop doing this once he meets up with the main party, though, and is now simply quiet and polite. Not that he doesn’t continue to abuse his Mind Read, but it’s done at the direction of the party leader, and generally, they keep the secrets they learn to themselves. He’s also better adapted to being around other people his own age. Because he found friendship so late in life, he deeply values his friends and is willing to sacrifice quite a lot for their sakes.

Ivan grows in other ways throughout his journey – He is initially somewhat reluctant to accept the strange powers that he possesses, dismayed that other people are constantly frightened of his ability to read their minds. When he learns, however, that there are others like himself, he becomes much more enthusiastic, and in combination with his strong sense of morality, nearly immediately decides that he needs to accompany Isaac and Garet on their journey. Even so, his speech near the beginning of the game is generally hesitant or doubtful, but as their journey progress, he becomes more confident in himself and in his abilities. Despite being the youngest of the characters, he often has some insight to offer into their current situation due to his gifts and his long habits in observing others.

Ivan is not easily angered and is generally of mild temperament. When he does become angry, however, he is very much capable of showing his wrath and doesn’t hesitate to call out those who are in the wrong. His anger doesn’t usually last, however. Immediately after defeating the man who had kidnapped his adoptive father for ransom money, his words are ones of concern, as he is afraid the man may have broken his leg. Despite his socially maladjusted upbringing, Ivan appears to have been instilled with great kindness by his adoptive parents.

Finally, it may be useful to note that Ivan eventually grows up into a scholar/inventor with know-how rivaling that of Kraden himself. He invents the Soarwing and is said to have studied extensively with Kraden long enough the events of the first two games. Though this personality trait isn’t clearly obvious in the games in which he appears, it is not unlikely that Ivan kept his interests in tinkering and inventing and research to himself, as he is a fairly private individual, despite his main skill being to violate the privacy of others.

I’ll be apping Ivan from before the beginning of the first game and allowing him to grow and develop throughout. This means that he’ll begin as the socially stunted, highly awkward young child first introduced to Isaac and Garet at the start of Golden Sun.

History: http://goldensun.wikia.com/wiki/Ivan

Setting Info: http://goldensun.wikia.com/wiki/Weyard

Abilities/Powers:
*Mind Read: Ivan can read the minds of others.
Reveal: Ivan can see through illusions and also find hidden objects.
*Precognition: Ivan can tell the future, though he never consciously awakens to this power.
*Various Wind and Electricity-based Psynergy: Ivan can call down tornadoes and lightning at will.
Stat-enhancement: Ivan can naturally boost attack and magic resistance.

With the power of Djinn, elemental spirits, Ivan can access a huge variety of spells and powers that would be far too long to list. Generally, in addition to complete mastery of Jupiter Psynergy (wind) he has a strong affinity for Mercury (water/ice) Psynergy and Mercury-based recovery spells as well. He can also access Mars (fire) and Venus (earth) Psynergy with some class-tweaking. In essence, it depends on what Djinn he has on him at any given time. On top of this, each Djinni, of which there are 72, has its own special ability. Finally, Djinni can also be used to summon powerful elemental spirits. I’ll be sticking primarily to the Jupiter and Mercury-based classes and Psynergy. If this is too vague, let me know. Asterisks indicate which abilities he has when he first enters the game; the reminder will be gained over time and experience.

Intended Guild: Order of Scholarly Research, due to his role off-screen in Dark Dawn as an inventer/scholar and his general sense of curiosity.

Notes/Other Info: I’ll be putting up a permissions post for Ivan’s Mind Read, as it will be essential when he first enters. He’ll be abusing it very liberally at the start of the game due to his canon point.

Sample Post: Here and here.

Character Name: Phoenix Wright
Canon Ace Attorney

Personality: Outwardly, Phoenix is a pretty mild-mannered sort of guy. He's easily intimidated, doesn't like to make more of a fuss than strictly necessary, and while he can be prone to emotional outbursts, he's not the sort of guy who homes in on conflict. Most of his less diplomatic comments are kept to himself (or attempted, anyway; he occasionally illustrates exactly what he's thinking on his face). In short, he's generally an everyman.

Until you get him to court.

Phoenix is a turnabout specialist, a guy who can take a seemingly hopeless case and turn it into a victory. Typically, this ends up by the skin of his teeth, thanks primarily to functioning within a court system antagonistic towards defense attorneys, who are seen as obstructing a quick, simple flow of getting as many criminals in jail as possible. But when he truly, honestly believes in the innocence of his client, he's ferocious, exploiting every weakness in a testimony, every seemingly innocuous piece of evidence. And he WILL believe in his clients; he never takes the cases of those who want him only to game the system, as his belief in the law requires him to have faith in his clients. His departed mentor, Mia Fey, taught him everything he knows, including how to think outside the box, and he holds to these teachings dearly.

Phoenix believes in truth and justice over victory. He will fight for his clients, sure, but only to ensure that the full story behind any crime comes out. A true lawyer, in his experience, works with the prosecution to ensure that every loose end, every possible alternate explanation or contradiction, has been ironed out, leaving nothing but the full, undiluted truth. The truth hurts sometimes, and may even cause pain to those he loves, but it has to be put out there. Leave a story incomplete, and justice cannot be achieved. It is only when everything is out there, warts and all, that judgment can be passed.

That said, Phoenix is also fiercely loyal to friends. He is most motivated when he has a personal stake in a case, usually a friend who is either on trial or in danger, and can otherwise be somewhat lazy and overly selective in his clients. Unfortunately, his loyalty also tends to bring out his rashest decisions, which more often than not hurt more than help. Still, you can count on him to defend you to the end -- and, perhaps, even sacrifice himself if that's what it takes to ensure your safety.

History: This goes past game 3, but for relevance's sake only the first 3 games are important.

Setting Info: Probably the best all around source.

Canon Point: Shortly after game 3, but before game 4.

Abilities/Powers: The Magatama: This is probably the best overview of what it is and how I limit it in RP terms. tl;dr: Super duper psychospiritual lie detector.

Intended Guild: Open Heart

Notes/Other Info: The Magatama is obviously an opt-in thing, and will only be used if allowed by other players.

Player Name: Badge
Personal Journal: [personal profile] dragomorph

Character Name: Ran Yakumo
Canon Touhou Project

Personality: In a land of lazy bums, bored powerhouses and fiendishly clever manipulators, Ran is something of an anomaly. Very few members of Gensokyo could be described as "mild-mannered," and yet Ran fits that to a T. Unlike most members of Gensokyo, she never fights for the sake of amusing herself, or establishing her own power. If she fights, it is only because she perceives combat as a necessity, either to right a wrong or to defend those to whom she's loyal. This is not only weird for kitsune, who are notorious in mythology for being both devilishly nasty tricksters and highly dangerous to humans, but it's weird for GENSOKYO, which can't seem to go a year or two without somebody stirring things up for the hell of it, and where blasting each other with hundreds of little magic bullets is just the residents' way of saying "hi."

Part of this is due to her connections to Yukari. She is a shikigami, a magically bound servant similar in fashion to a familiar. Furthermore, a kitsune, once she has formed a bond of loyalty, remains loyal for life. Ran, having been Yukari's shikigami since a very young age, has grown up with this sense of loyalty, which seems to have significantly tempered her more "kitsune" attributes. Mythologically, she is a kitsune more in the framework of a zenko fox, the more benevolent form of the species. Either way, she does not act like one would expect of a creature of her type, let alone one who has grown old enough, intelligent enough, and wise enough not only to have grown all nine tails, but to take on a shikigami of her own despite being enslaved to someone else. Make no mistake; she may be motherly and gentle, but she's still one of the most powerful people in Gensokyo, and even more so the closer in proximity to Yukari she is.

However, do not mistake "gentle" for "dull-witted." Ran is a shikigami, but she's YUKARI'S shikigami, and while she is still light years behind her master in terms of cunning, she is still more than capable of manipulating events in a very calculating way if the opportunity provides. She will generally be more straight-forward and open than her master, but provide her ample reason to and she can be a cunning trickster with the best of them. Her only downside is that she is surprisingly poor at thinking outside the box. She is very good at utilizing tools already established and expanding on them, but not so good at coming up with her own ideas. This may change as she grows smarter, but for now she prefers to rely on classic and/or technical knowledge. This canonically drives Yukari nuts in the meantime, as she tends to default towards complex algorithms, statistical information and boring old LOGIC to try and answer philosophical questions rather than actually, you know, talk philosophy.

This also ties into her sense of honor and loyalty. She grows annoyed at people who talk out of line, and who attempt to usurp the natural order of things. Ran respects her elders and respects those who demonstrate greater power than she, and does not tolerate backtalk from those who are still growing up. Ranks and power should be earned, not assumed. She will patiently tutor and train those who aspire to greater things, but while she may be patient like a mother, she also can carry the anger of one, and will punish accordingly -- and likewise accept punishment where it is due. After all, actions carry consequences. Yukari has trained her in this well enough.

History: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Ran_Yakumo
Setting Info: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Gensokyo
Canon Point: Post-Ten Desires.

Abilities/Powers:
- Shikigami: In addition to maintaining a permanent, servant-style shikigami like Chen, Ran can also create temporary ones by using paper dolls in the more traditional sense. Since they are paper dolls, the power is weakened somewhat by water.
- Danmaku: Like all Touhou characters, Ran can pew pew pew with the best of them. With Yukari's enhancement, she's exceedingly powerful; without, she's still strong, but nowhere near to the same extent.
- Shapeshift: Since Ran isn't much of a trickster, she only really shifts between fox and humanoid form.
- Flight: This would be more exciting if it wasn't for the fact nearly everybody in Gensokyo flies.

Intended Guild: Order of Scholarly Research. OFFICIALLY, anyway.

Notes/Other Info: Presumably, Yukari took Ran with her when she arrived here. If it is at all possible, I'd like to start her in a situation where it's assumed she's been in the game world for at least a month or two prior to game opening.

Character Name: Purifier
Canon OC!
Personality: PUrifier is the embodiment of self-sacrifice, honor, faith, and loyalty.

He has an artistic temperment, and writes poetry and reads pretty much anything he can get his hands on. He has given up his name
, his past, pretty much everything except his mortal form to become a paladin of the Order of Purifiers. Purifiers lack individual
personality, instead they are a representation of a branch faith of Carda from the aforementioned generalized Pathfinder setting.

Purifier tends towards grimness in his personal demeanor, and is entirely devoted to whatever mission he finds himself to be on.
He is a thoughtful man, despite his nature as a war-priest, and spends much time devoted to philosophy and contemplations of Good
and Evil, as well as what is the best form of government for mankind.

Purifier does have a peculiar personal quirk, in that he is extremely uncomfortable dealing with any sort of situation involving
personal affections, for example if he sees two people in love he will become somewhat more awkward than usual, as he considers
personal attachments of that nature to be an obstacle to the perfect instrument of justice which a purifier aspires to be. This
is somewhat amusement given his penchant for reading love poetry, but that is something of a personal shame and secret of his.

Purifier is not a natural leader, but functions best as someone else's second and moral compass, with no personal attachments he
will always be able to venture a suggestion that is designed to benefit the greater good. He is not the most brilliant tactician despite being quite astute, instead leaning heavily on his own physical might and divine power to act as a sort of battering ram or juggernaught. His mind is that of a philosopher or poet gone to war, not a trained tactician.

Purifier is capable of great acts of rage and anger when righteously honked off at a dishonorable or evil foe, but is
inclined towards mercy if a foe surrenders. He reserves particular ire for the undead and the demonic, based on his experiences
with his adventuring party, and the fact that an evil nation of necromancers is trying to conquer the world.

Purifier refuses to show his face at any time, considering this a cardinal sin in his order, as faces are the sign of an individual, much like the names and heritage he has already given up. As such, he always wears a low hood or a helmet.

Sample Post: Purifier sits within the Cathedral Grande', reading tomes upon tomes worth of devotional
books. Everything from the earliest texts of Carda, to the newer faiths he has come into contact with while sojourning
within this strange crossroads. He wears a simple sackcloth road, the hood low to cover his face, all but his tanned chin
and fairly wide lips are hidden. As someone approaches, he turns to them, asking in a sonorous voice that has hints of
almost being several voices, "Have you too come to contemplate the mysteries of the multi-faceted divine?"

[ An armored figure, brown eyes peering out through a dark helm looks out at you as he asks a question ]

It has been said that Light requires darkness in order to be Light. That good needs evil. Do you agree with this? If so,
why, or why not? I must admit personally I find the idea of good requiring evil to be defined is silly. Good can be done simply
by ameliorating suffering, it doesn't need evil to force altruism upon the world. The multiverse is dangerous and harsh
enough without active malefactors existing within it. But pain and suffering are not in and of themselves evil. It is the
inflicting of these things upon another without good reason that is evil. A doctor who burns the infection out of his patient with
flame may hurt the patient, but he will have saved his life.

Player Name: AOB
Personal Journal: [personal profile] froncentration
Other Characters Played: None

Character Name: Ice King (Simon Petrikov)
Canon Adventure Time

Personality: The Cosmic Owl once called the Ice King a sociopath and that isn't terribly far from the truth. The Ice King makes his living by using his powers to kidnap princesses and imprison them until he is ready to marry one. He is in constant pursuit of love and companionship, but his grasp of either of them are shaky at best. For one, he believes that his princesses genuinely like being imprisoned. And that it is perfectly okay to freeze people until they become his friends. To get what he wants, he usually sees nothing wrong with hurting, even killing, others. Short-tempered and stubborn, the Ice King is a difficult, if undesirable person to deal with.

That being said, the Ice King is hardly ever a serious threat. His own short attention span often bungles his plans, which are limited to kidnapping princesses, stealing, or cheating at games. In all earnestness, he really only wants friends. He's perfectly fine with being with people who are at constant odds with him if only because they're willing to be in his company. Hurting them every once in a while with a punch or something to get even is fine, but over time, to those special people, his conscience becomes against killing. Although he often ignores his own flaws, there are moments where he understands with clarity that he is terribly lonely. Crying out for people to tell him why he's so unattractive, he would go into tantrums and break into tears in the worst case scenario. His violent, unpredictable, and generally uncomfortable nature only isolates himself from others. It doesn't help that he has trouble understanding other people's feelings in turn.

The Ice King, though displaying shades of evil, is at most a nuisance. He does balance it every now and then by wanting to help people. Although perfectly fine with kidnapping, the Ice King also wants to make sure nothing terribly bad ever happens to Princess Bubblegum. There have been instances where he stepped up to the role of a protagonist and helped rescue her. Although he lost interest after she regressed in age, there are hints of concern for others well-being. When he pushes down Marceline, he feels genuine regret for possibly hurting her and backs off by his own volition. Overall, the Ice King has a softer side for women than men, but even when his interests aren't at stake, he is capable of caring for other people besides himself.

That last part of his personality can most likely be attributed to his original life as Simon Petrikov. Once an antiquarian who shared a mutual love with his fiancee, Betty, he started gradually losing his grip on reality after placing the crown on his head. Simon in contrast to the Ice King is a caring man, evident from his concern for his relationship and the way he treated Marceline after finding her in the Mushroom War's aftermath. Simon's original feelings linger on as evident when the Ice King fears for losing Princess Bubblegum and equates it to being trapped inside a labyrinth of his own mind, similar to how Simon felt in the process of his transformation. Simon expresses deep regret for what he is becoming, which surfaces as the Ice King wondering desperately what is wrong with him. He remembers nothing about his life as Simon and has completely disassociated himself to the point where all he can bring himself to be concerned about is that he once wore glasses. Simon's inner personality could be said to have brought out the best in the Ice King and limited his potential evil. As the Ice King yearns for self-discovery and happiness, Simon appears to gradually be finding his way out of his mind's labyrinth.

History: http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Ice_King
Setting Info: http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Earth
http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Land_of_Ooo

Canon Point: Post-events of the episode, “I Remember You”.

Abilities/Powers: The source of the Ice King's magic and mastery over ice is his crown. Without it, he becomes unable to cast his magic. His power of flight depends on him having his beard. His power over ice allows him to summon lightning that freezes anything it comes into contact with. Any body of snow can be given life and transform into golems or creatures to do his bidding. They often have simplistic personalities and serve to please their master, but the extent of their loyalty seems to generally depend on how complicated their structures are. Like, say, the Iceipede, one of the Ice King's largest creatures, had no issue with attacking him before going after his enemies. Semi-loyal indeed. The Ice King can both summon wintery weather and change the surroundings as he sees fit and move ice through telekinesis.
Even without the crown, though, the Ice King can survive in the harshest of temperatures. His magic gave him immunity to the nuclear fallout that devastated the world, making him technically the last human left, although his race is officially regarded as “Wizard”. As a “Wizard”, his eyes allow him to see incorporeal creatures like spirits and doorways into spirit dimensions. Much of what he sees may not be all that real in truth. His wizard eyes make him see crazy things all the time. All the time.
The Ice King makes use of certain items like a freezing potion (with antidote), an ice ring that places the wearer under mental imprisonment, love potions, and a Demonic Wishing Eye that can create powerful doppelgangers of the wearer with duplicates of his will and mindset. He can create his own weapons using his ice powers of which he has a fair amount of mastery over.

Intended Guild: Order of Scholarly Research. Although a king, he's a wizard first and foremost and has shown little interest for riches to be a member of the Diamonds of Fortune. He has often demonstrated knowledge over his field of study, at any rate. That being ice and the manipulating of.

Notes/Other Info: The Ice King will be bringing his penguins, all of whom are named Gunter. And also a kitten that one of them gave birth to. The same one also possesses a remarkably evil soul. It's worth mentioning if there will be any characters who can see that sort of thing. They like breaking bottles.

Player Name: Void

Other Characters Played: Yukari Yakumo

Character Name: Jecht
Canon Final Fantasy X

Personality: Jecht is a braggart, a bully, an egotist, and an alcoholic. Verbally abusive to his son, self-absorbed and obsessed with his game, his career, and later, his bottle, Jecht was unable to leave a happy home life for his son. His natural charisma drew his wife to him and kept her in his thrall, even if he was not the best husband around.

However, in spite of all of this, Jecht is not necessarily a bad person. His alcoholism is a definite low point in his life, and it exaggerates a number of his less admirable traits. As a father, he wants his son, Tidus, to succeed, and comes to the conclusion that in order to encourage this he needs to belittle and berate his son to encourage his son to prove him wrong.

To Jecht, Blitzball is his first love. The sport is something he excels at, while it can be argued whether or not it is true he insists he is the best, even deeply in the thrall of his alcoholism. While gruff, when talking about Blitzball he comes alive and his arrogant bravado are on full display. Jecht is a man who believes wholeheartedly in his own superiority, and is also a man who is willing to tell you about it at length and make fun of you if you don’t agree with him.

Though he is a braggart, Jecht has a rather deep sense of honor. While he is fine being a complete asshole, he does not like burdening his friends. Jecht was able to give up alcohol entirely when, while drunk, he mistook a shoopuf (a large elephant creature that can be ridden) for a fiend and wounded it, forcing Braska to spend all of their travel money to pay reparations. This shame shook Jecht badly, causing him to give up alcohol so he didn’t bring further shame on his friends or his family.

Jecht does love his family and his son, he is just not able to express it well. He records a video diary for his wife and son during his journey, hoping he can one day return to them. While he himself admits that he’s not good at the “sentimental stuff” he does want his son to succeed. Upon finding the price for the Final Summoning and the defeat of Sin, Jecht volunteers himself but makes sure his friend Auron will care for and raise his son in his stead to be greater and more successful than he is.

While gruffer and more aggressive with his son, Jecht seems to have a much softer side for women. He is a loyal husband and while he is self-centered, he and his wife have a very passionate relationship (a relationship his son resents). He also has a much kinder relationship with the young Yuna, daughter of his friend and traveling companion Braska. He tells her stories and treats her well, and even though he was at the time still drinking heavily she sees him as a much more idolized figure than Tidus can comprehend. Simply put, Jecht appears to be the worst kind of jock out there, but buried within is a good man who may not always have the best answer but is, in his own way, trying to do the best he can.

History: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Jecht
Setting Info: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Spira
Canon Point: Post-canon, after his defeat as Braska’s Final Aeon and passing on to the farplane.

Abilities/Powers: Jecht is extremely strong and tough, as befits one of the best Blitzball players of all time who is capable of holding his breath for extended periods of time. Something of a skilled swordsman, he tends to rely more on brute force than finesse and talent to get him through a fight. Jecht has an incredible amount of endurance and physical prowess, but has no real supernatural ability to speak of.

Intended Guild: The Hounds. Jecht is competitive, belligerent, and jovial, a perfect fit for the Hounds.

Notes/Other Info: In the Crossroads, Jecht will functionally be “unsent”, a “dead” being who is able to maintain the general semblance of life with no major impediment.
