Character Name: Ivan
Canon Golden Sun

Personality: Ivan has a few main personality traits which are worth mentioning. The first is that before he met Isaac and Garet, he had no friends whatsoever. This, combined with his ‘strange power’ of reading minds, made him more than a bit awkward, socially. The first impression that most people have of him was ‘that weird kid with the purple eyes’, as he was quiet, extremely polite, and also extremely creepy in being able to repeat thoughts out loud all the time. He learned to stop doing this once he meets up with the main party, though, and is now simply quiet and polite. Not that he doesn’t continue to abuse his Mind Read, but it’s done at the direction of the party leader, and generally, they keep the secrets they learn to themselves. He’s also better adapted to being around other people his own age. Because he found friendship so late in life, he deeply values his friends and is willing to sacrifice quite a lot for their sakes.

Ivan grows in other ways throughout his journey – He is initially somewhat reluctant to accept the strange powers that he possesses, dismayed that other people are constantly frightened of his ability to read their minds. When he learns, however, that there are others like himself, he becomes much more enthusiastic, and in combination with his strong sense of morality, nearly immediately decides that he needs to accompany Isaac and Garet on their journey. Even so, his speech near the beginning of the game is generally hesitant or doubtful, but as their journey progress, he becomes more confident in himself and in his abilities. Despite being the youngest of the characters, he often has some insight to offer into their current situation due to his gifts and his long habits in observing others.

Ivan is not easily angered and is generally of mild temperament. When he does become angry, however, he is very much capable of showing his wrath and doesn’t hesitate to call out those who are in the wrong. His anger doesn’t usually last, however. Immediately after defeating the man who had kidnapped his adoptive father for ransom money, his words are ones of concern, as he is afraid the man may have broken his leg. Despite his socially maladjusted upbringing, Ivan appears to have been instilled with great kindness by his adoptive parents.

Finally, it may be useful to note that Ivan eventually grows up into a scholar/inventor with know-how rivaling that of Kraden himself. He invents the Soarwing and is said to have studied extensively with Kraden long enough the events of the first two games. Though this personality trait isn’t clearly obvious in the games in which he appears, it is not unlikely that Ivan kept his interests in tinkering and inventing and research to himself, as he is a fairly private individual, despite his main skill being to violate the privacy of others.

I’ll be apping Ivan from before the beginning of the first game and allowing him to grow and develop throughout. This means that he’ll begin as the socially stunted, highly awkward young child first introduced to Isaac and Garet at the start of Golden Sun.

History: http://goldensun.wikia.com/wiki/Ivan

Setting Info: http://goldensun.wikia.com/wiki/Weyard

Abilities/Powers:
*Mind Read: Ivan can read the minds of others.
Reveal: Ivan can see through illusions and also find hidden objects.
*Precognition: Ivan can tell the future, though he never consciously awakens to this power.
*Various Wind and Electricity-based Psynergy: Ivan can call down tornadoes and lightning at will.
Stat-enhancement: Ivan can naturally boost attack and magic resistance.

With the power of Djinn, elemental spirits, Ivan can access a huge variety of spells and powers that would be far too long to list. Generally, in addition to complete mastery of Jupiter Psynergy (wind) he has a strong affinity for Mercury (water/ice) Psynergy and Mercury-based recovery spells as well. He can also access Mars (fire) and Venus (earth) Psynergy with some class-tweaking. In essence, it depends on what Djinn he has on him at any given time. On top of this, each Djinni, of which there are 72, has its own special ability. Finally, Djinni can also be used to summon powerful elemental spirits. I’ll be sticking primarily to the Jupiter and Mercury-based classes and Psynergy. If this is too vague, let me know. Asterisks indicate which abilities he has when he first enters the game; the reminder will be gained over time and experience.

Intended Guild: Order of Scholarly Research, due to his role off-screen in Dark Dawn as an inventer/scholar and his general sense of curiosity.

Notes/Other Info: I’ll be putting up a permissions post for Ivan’s Mind Read, as it will be essential when he first enters. He’ll be abusing it very liberally at the start of the game due to his canon point.

Character Name: Phoenix Wright
Canon Ace Attorney

Personality: Outwardly, Phoenix is a pretty mild-mannered sort of guy. He's easily intimidated, doesn't like to make more of a fuss than strictly necessary, and while he can be prone to emotional outbursts, he's not the sort of guy who homes in on conflict. Most of his less diplomatic comments are kept to himself (or attempted, anyway; he occasionally illustrates exactly what he's thinking on his face). In short, he's generally an everyman.

Until you get him to court.

Phoenix is a turnabout specialist, a guy who can take a seemingly hopeless case and turn it into a victory. Typically, this ends up by the skin of his teeth, thanks primarily to functioning within a court system antagonistic towards defense attorneys, who are seen as obstructing a quick, simple flow of getting as many criminals in jail as possible. But when he truly, honestly believes in the innocence of his client, he's ferocious, exploiting every weakness in a testimony, every seemingly innocuous piece of evidence. And he WILL believe in his clients; he never takes the cases of those who want him only to game the system, as his belief in the law requires him to have faith in his clients. His departed mentor, Mia Fey, taught him everything he knows, including how to think outside the box, and he holds to these teachings dearly.

Phoenix believes in truth and justice over victory. He will fight for his clients, sure, but only to ensure that the full story behind any crime comes out. A true lawyer, in his experience, works with the prosecution to ensure that every loose end, every possible alternate explanation or contradiction, has been ironed out, leaving nothing but the full, undiluted truth. The truth hurts sometimes, and may even cause pain to those he loves, but it has to be put out there. Leave a story incomplete, and justice cannot be achieved. It is only when everything is out there, warts and all, that judgment can be passed.

That said, Phoenix is also fiercely loyal to friends. He is most motivated when he has a personal stake in a case, usually a friend who is either on trial or in danger, and can otherwise be somewhat lazy and overly selective in his clients. Unfortunately, his loyalty also tends to bring out his rashest decisions, which more often than not hurt more than help. Still, you can count on him to defend you to the end -- and, perhaps, even sacrifice himself if that's what it takes to ensure your safety.

History: This goes past game 3, but for relevance's sake only the first 3 games are important.

Setting Info: Probably the best all around source.

Canon Point: Shortly after game 3, but before game 4.

Abilities/Powers: The Magatama: This is probably the best overview of what it is and how I limit it in RP terms. tl;dr: Super duper psychospiritual lie detector.

Intended Guild: Open Heart

Notes/Other Info: The Magatama is obviously an opt-in thing, and will only be used if allowed by other players.

Personal Journal: [personal profile] dragomorph

Character Name: Ran Yakumo
Canon Touhou Project

Personality: In a land of lazy bums, bored powerhouses and fiendishly clever manipulators, Ran is something of an anomaly. Very few members of Gensokyo could be described as "mild-mannered," and yet Ran fits that to a T. Unlike most members of Gensokyo, she never fights for the sake of amusing herself, or establishing her own power. If she fights, it is only because she perceives combat as a necessity, either to right a wrong or to defend those to whom she's loyal. This is not only weird for kitsune, who are notorious in mythology for being both devilishly nasty tricksters and highly dangerous to humans, but it's weird for GENSOKYO, which can't seem to go a year or two without somebody stirring things up for the hell of it, and where blasting each other with hundreds of little magic bullets is just the residents' way of saying "hi."

Part of this is due to her connections to Yukari. She is a shikigami, a magically bound servant similar in fashion to a familiar. Furthermore, a kitsune, once she has formed a bond of loyalty, remains loyal for life. Ran, having been Yukari's shikigami since a very young age, has grown up with this sense of loyalty, which seems to have significantly tempered her more "kitsune" attributes. Mythologically, she is a kitsune more in the framework of a zenko fox, the more benevolent form of the species. Either way, she does not act like one would expect of a creature of her type, let alone one who has grown old enough, intelligent enough, and wise enough not only to have grown all nine tails, but to take on a shikigami of her own despite being enslaved to someone else. Make no mistake; she may be motherly and gentle, but she's still one of the most powerful people in Gensokyo, and even more so the closer in proximity to Yukari she is.

However, do not mistake "gentle" for "dull-witted." Ran is a shikigami, but she's YUKARI'S shikigami, and while she is still light years behind her master in terms of cunning, she is still more than capable of manipulating events in a very calculating way if the opportunity provides. She will generally be more straight-forward and open than her master, but provide her ample reason to and she can be a cunning trickster with the best of them. Her only downside is that she is surprisingly poor at thinking outside the box. She is very good at utilizing tools already established and expanding on them, but not so good at coming up with her own ideas. This may change as she grows smarter, but for now she prefers to rely on classic and/or technical knowledge. This canonically drives Yukari nuts in the meantime, as she tends to default towards complex algorithms, statistical information and boring old LOGIC to try and answer philosophical questions rather than actually, you know, talk philosophy.

This also ties into her sense of honor and loyalty. She grows annoyed at people who talk out of line, and who attempt to usurp the natural order of things. Ran respects her elders and respects those who demonstrate greater power than she, and does not tolerate backtalk from those who are still growing up. Ranks and power should be earned, not assumed. She will patiently tutor and train those who aspire to greater things, but while she may be patient like a mother, she also can carry the anger of one, and will punish accordingly -- and likewise accept punishment where it is due. After all, actions carry consequences. Yukari has trained her in this well enough.

History: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Ran_Yakumo
Setting Info: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Gensokyo
Canon Point: Post-Ten Desires.

Abilities/Powers:
- Shikigami: In addition to maintaining a permanent, servant-style shikigami like Chen, Ran can also create temporary ones by using paper dolls in the more traditional sense. Since they are paper dolls, the power is weakened somewhat by water.
- Danmaku: Like all Touhou characters, Ran can pew pew pew with the best of them. With Yukari's enhancement, she's exceedingly powerful; without, she's still strong, but nowhere near to the same extent.
- Shapeshift: Since Ran isn't much of a trickster, she only really shifts between fox and humanoid form.
- Flight: This would be more exciting if it wasn't for the fact nearly everybody in Gensokyo flies.

Intended Guild: Order of Scholarly Research. OFFICIALLY, anyway.

Notes/Other Info: Presumably, Yukari took Ran with her when she arrived here. If it is at all possible, I'd like to start her in a situation where it's assumed she's been in the game world for at least a month or two prior to game opening.

The setting is, basically, what happens when you collide America with Japan really really hard. Although ostensibly the locales and people are Western, the law system, with its brutal guilty until proven innocent nature, lack of a jury, and "speed the criminals through to a conviction" style, is thoroughly Japanese, as is the unspoken assumption that it is somehow remotely possible to get where you need to go in California with only a bicycle.

There is a mild spiritual/psychic undercurrent to the world. Spirits exist and can be channeled by spirit mediums, and strange powers can tap into the human psyche and enhance senses, or detect coverups. These powers are rarely discussed too much, although the level of belief displayed in them varies. Presumably, since the setting is rumored to be the same world as Ghost Trick, there is also the capacity for ghosts to manipulate the world around them as well with enough effort.

Hmm!

In the early days of their partnership, Ichirin thought of Unzan as somewhat of a defeated foe andsomewhat of a loyal vassal. However, as the years went by, and particularly once other humans started to ostracize her for her affiliation with youkai, Unzan became the one person who she could really consistently rely on. Since she joined Byakuren's group, there were more people who would have her back in a pinch, but the period in between her separation from the human worlds and her integration into Byakuren's world left a lasting impression, and Unzan is now unconditionally Ichirin's best friend. Since Unzan is bad at talking to people, Ichirin often acts as his spokesperson to others.

The time that strengthened Ichirin's friendship with Unzan also severely weakened her religious fervor. She was a priest in her human life, but she more or less turned her back on that life when the world of humans turned its back on her. As such, her chief motivation for living the monk's life now is less religious fervor and more profound respect for Byakuren. The pacifistic elements of the religion frustrate her, and she often ends up getting into fights anyway, a fact that makes her worry that she'll lose Byakuren's favor, so she compensates by focusing on the other parts of her duties - denying material desires, helping the needy, and nagging preaching to non-converts about the greatness of buddhism. She does drink (Byakuren is the only one who doesn't), but not very much - as much because she doesn't want to lose control of her dignity as because she lives under the same roof as Toramaru the raging alcoholic.
