Character Name: Ice King (Simon Petrikov) Canon Adventure Time
Personality: The Cosmic Owl once called the Ice King a sociopath and that isn't terribly far from the truth. The Ice King makes his living by using his powers to kidnap princesses and imprison them until he is ready to marry one. He is in constant pursuit of love and companionship, but his grasp of either of them are shaky at best. For one, he believes that his princesses genuinely like being imprisoned. And that it is perfectly okay to freeze people until they become his friends. To get what he wants, he usually sees nothing wrong with hurting, even killing, others. Short-tempered and stubborn, the Ice King is a difficult, if undesirable person to deal with.
That being said, the Ice King is hardly ever a serious threat. His own short attention span often bungles his plans, which are limited to kidnapping princesses, stealing, or cheating at games. In all earnestness, he really only wants friends. He's perfectly fine with being with people who are at constant odds with him if only because they're willing to be in his company. Hurting them every once in a while with a punch or something to get even is fine, but over time, to those special people, his conscience becomes against killing. Although he often ignores his own flaws, there are moments where he understands with clarity that he is terribly lonely. Crying out for people to tell him why he's so unattractive, he would go into tantrums and break into tears in the worst case scenario. His violent, unpredictable, and generally uncomfortable nature only isolates himself from others. It doesn't help that he has trouble understanding other people's feelings in turn.
The Ice King, though displaying shades of evil, is at most a nuisance. He does balance it every now and then by wanting to help people. Although perfectly fine with kidnapping, the Ice King also wants to make sure nothing terribly bad ever happens to Princess Bubblegum. There have been instances where he stepped up to the role of a protagonist and helped rescue her. Although he lost interest after she regressed in age, there are hints of concern for others well-being. When he pushes down Marceline, he feels genuine regret for possibly hurting her and backs off by his own volition. Overall, the Ice King has a softer side for women than men, but even when his interests aren't at stake, he is capable of caring for other people besides himself.
That last part of his personality can most likely be attributed to his original life as Simon Petrikov. Once an antiquarian who shared a mutual love with his fiancee, Betty, he started gradually losing his grip on reality after placing the crown on his head. Simon in contrast to the Ice King is a caring man, evident from his concern for his relationship and the way he treated Marceline after finding her in the Mushroom War's aftermath. Simon's original feelings linger on as evident when the Ice King fears for losing Princess Bubblegum and equates it to being trapped inside a labyrinth of his own mind, similar to how Simon felt in the process of his transformation. Simon expresses deep regret for what he is becoming, which surfaces as the Ice King wondering desperately what is wrong with him. He remembers nothing about his life as Simon and has completely disassociated himself to the point where all he can bring himself to be concerned about is that he once wore glasses. Simon's inner personality could be said to have brought out the best in the Ice King and limited his potential evil. As the Ice King yearns for self-discovery and happiness, Simon appears to gradually be finding his way out of his mind's labyrinth.
Canon Point: Post-events of the episode, “I Remember You”.
Abilities/Powers: The source of the Ice King's magic and mastery over ice is his crown. Without it, he becomes unable to cast his magic. His power of flight depends on him having his beard. His power over ice allows him to summon lightning that freezes anything it comes into contact with. Any body of snow can be given life and transform into golems or creatures to do his bidding. They often have simplistic personalities and serve to please their master, but the extent of their loyalty seems to generally depend on how complicated their structures are. Like, say, the Iceipede, one of the Ice King's largest creatures, had no issue with attacking him before going after his enemies. Semi-loyal indeed. The Ice King can both summon wintery weather and change the surroundings as he sees fit and move ice through telekinesis. Even without the crown, though, the Ice King can survive in the harshest of temperatures. His magic gave him immunity to the nuclear fallout that devastated the world, making him technically the last human left, although his race is officially regarded as “Wizard”. As a “Wizard”, his eyes allow him to see incorporeal creatures like spirits and doorways into spirit dimensions. Much of what he sees may not be all that real in truth. His wizard eyes make him see crazy things all the time. All the time. The Ice King makes use of certain items like a freezing potion (with antidote), an ice ring that places the wearer under mental imprisonment, love potions, and a Demonic Wishing Eye that can create powerful doppelgangers of the wearer with duplicates of his will and mindset. He can create his own weapons using his ice powers of which he has a fair amount of mastery over.
Intended Guild: Order of Scholarly Research. Although a king, he's a wizard first and foremost and has shown little interest for riches to be a member of the Diamonds of Fortune. He has often demonstrated knowledge over his field of study, at any rate. That being ice and the manipulating of.
Notes/Other Info: The Ice King will be bringing his penguins, all of whom are named Gunter. And also a kitten that one of them gave birth to. The same one also possesses a remarkably evil soul. It's worth mentioning if there will be any characters who can see that sort of thing. They like breaking bottles.
